1983 Montgomery 17 Hull # 369
Designed by Lyle Hess (Bristol Channel Cutter / and Larry and Lynn Pardy’s boats)
Made by Jerry Montgomery.
This boat is in excellent condition and much has been added or improved.
Montgomery 17’s are highly regarded and not always easy to find, specially in Canada. I had to go to Portland for this boat in 2006.
The boat is launched and retrieved easily.
Trailer has surge brakes. The springs are a perfect rate for this boat. Tracks well behind a mini van, SUV, or small truck.
Lots of info and tech on-line with a very active Montgomery owners group.
Details:
-Full custom made canvas cover for boat.
-Yamaha 4hp 4 stroke engine. This engine is regularly serviced and always starts on the first or second pull. It runs strong, idles well and is a good match for this boat.
-
Stainless adjustable engine mount.
-Tiller pilot.
-
Masthead rig.
-
Slab reefing, two reef points.
-
12V with high end solar panel. I have never run out of 12v power while multi-day cruising.
-New Main Electrical Switch.
-North Main and 155, stock jib. Spinner, other sails.
-All lines lead to cockpit.
-New Backstay tensioner.
-Down-haul for the headsail.
-Adjustable high end Whisker Pole used as spinnaker pole as well.
-Topping lift.
-Loose footed battened main …out haul. North Main and North 155 Genoa.
-Custom Hatch boards figured Makore.
-Honduras Mahogany hand rails.
-Honduras Mahogany drawers/storage in the cabin.
-New rudder and tiller. Very straight and fair.
-Good rubber on trailer, though the spare needs to be replaced.
-Center board cleaned and epoxied with new pendant and hardware.
-Never had bottom paint. Has only seen fresh water since I have had her.
-2 anchors. The main anchor has 150 feet of rode with markers and chain.
-Flares, safety gear, cushions.
-Saturn bulkhead mounted compass in the cockpit.
-VHF Marine radio.
-Depth sounder / water temps.
-Main sheet improved with traveler.
This boat is fast for it's waterline. It sails very well on all points of sail but especially to windward. The Montgomery 17 is very well made and highly regarded.
This boat is well appointed and everything works as it should.
What does the boat need? The exterior woodwork needs some varnish. The spare tire needs to be replaced. There is only one fender on the trailer.
I am selling the boat because I stopped sailing to focus on newer hobbies.
Asking $5,000. Will consider trades on a motorcycle (no cruisers) street bikes, sport, Classic, Dual Purpose, fabricating equipment, machine lathe, mill..... or?
