Hi there.
I managed (finally) to get some images of Annie whilst sailing. July 24-05.
I was playing
in a steady 8 knot breeze and got the idea to ask some nice folks just sitting
in the middle of the lake enjoying the sun. They were in a fancy black wake
boat of some kind. I headed towards them, asked if anyone could take some pix
for me and the one chap volunteered.
I made a turn and handed off my digital slr. I told him to just blast as many
shots as he wanted there is a big memory card in there and the exposure was
on auto. I sailed off and made a bunch of turns and tried to sail on most points.
As I came closer at one point early on, he asked me if there was something wrong
with the camera as it had a flashing light and didn;t seem to be working. I
said it is just the camera storing the fiole to the card...a red light flashes
on the back of the camera. He never said another word and took pictures for
ten minutes or so. I sailed past again, thanked them very much and sailed off.
Well, once I got the camera back and settled into a longer windward tack I checked
the images and then realized that I had given the camera to these people with
the self timer on! That is what he was talking about. So every time he tripped
the shutter, there was a 20 second delay before a picture was made. Bugger!
Poor guy. Once I realized this I felt sorry for him. But, once I looked at the
images once home...he had done an amazing job! The first two were of the bottom
of his boat...but all the other were pretty good. Imagine....trying to sort
all that out with someone elses camera. Mr. Wake board boat guy from Alberta.....sorry
man. What a dummy I am. But thanks for the images.

Starboard Tack
Downhill working at getting the lapper to wing out
...a little better now.
Beam reach

A kind fellow on this pontoon boat passed me an ice cold beer as I went by!

Tacking
(notice how slack
in main sheet can hang down when tacking...I have a couple of fairleads under
the boom to prevent that now)

Wing and wing, nice
shot.
(I can shape the lapper much better than this when using a further
aft sheeting point or with the pole)

Here is an image that
clearly shows the current (2005) look and 'keel' profile of the boat.

Changes I planning for next season.
(This is mainly a place for me to keep notes for myself)
Topsail. Masts extension for hounds and topsail rig. Need more space between
fully hoisted gaff and it's control system. Also need to clear the side stays
better at the gaff crotch.
Repair damage to mast at full sail gaff saddle location.
Change location of leathers for gaff jaws.
Coaming...? Scuppers are done...love them. More scuppers needed. To bad the
designer did not include outward canting decks.
Cabin vents.
Replace rub rail and build proper toe rail. Maybe next year. Maybe a bullworks
instead...
Move ballast to keel as discussed with JW.
New Gooseneck that does not have through bolts...may replace with Lag screws
for now.
Rather than a laced luff, go with custom made mast hoops....to clear tabernackle
sleeve.
And after all this, I am
considering the possibility of making a new hull. A different boat. Not right
now...or even soon. Just tossing the idea around.
Something a lot faster and more slippery, not longer (maybe a little), beamier,
more freeboard, roomier. Something that <might> have sitting headroom.
Something with a multichine hull shape and with the remote possibility of planing
on a reach or run.
Something that will utilize my current rig and sails, perhaps with the addition
of a mizzen.
Something that will utilize the trailer, motor, rudder, ballast and running
rigging I have now.
At this point. (August 05) thinking
a Navigator utilizing my trailer, rig (plus mizzen) and rudder, ballast.
First Sailing day of the year. here
More seasons sailing images to come once I stop sailing......~:0)
